Melting Technology

Owens Corning has been melting glass and making fibers for more than 65 years. And, we never stop trying to do it better – for the environment and our bottom line.

We have a suite of production technologies for making glass fiber reinforcements. It’s called our Smart Melting Package.

One recent addition to that package is a new gas and oxygen firing technology. It uses less energy and generates far fewer emissions – reducing NOx by 75% and CO2 by 40%.

In November 2007, Owens Corning added 19 manufacturing plants by acquiring the reinforcements business of Saint-Gobain. We have already started changing the new facilities to Advantex® glass and the first conversion was in Thimmapur, India. Plants in Spain, China and Italy are next and the conversion is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
